2 month old with fever after shots...How do I keep her comfortable?
She is running 100.5 F. She got her shots today at 8:30am. I gave her Tylenol at 9:30 and 1:30. She was due for a dose at 5:30pm when I was at work. My fiance (bless him) gave her gas drops instead (they both have the squeeze top)! So she didn't get any Tylenol since 1:30pm. When she woke up when I got home, she felt warm. I took her temp and it was 100.5F. I gave her a dose of Tylenol. She feels warm, but not real warm.
How do I dress her? She doesn't seem hot enough to require no blankets. I usually swaddle her in a Receiving Blanket and a thicker blanket. Right now, I have her in her gown with the receiving blanket wrapped around her, but not swaddled really tight. She doesn't seem uncomfortable. Is the fever low enough to not alter the way I dress her?
Here's what I would do. If she's awake, give her a cooling bath, which is just a normal bath with room temperature water, not hot water. That will bring her temp down. Unless your place is very cool, I would then just dress her in a onesie and swaddle her with one receiving blanket. Your baby should be dressed how you are dressed and if where you are at is cold, maybe one extra layer than what you have on. I also agree that sometimes just taking all the hot clothes off is enough to lower your baby's temp. My babies are 3 1/2 years old and 5 months and my first sometimes got fevers with different shots but they always dropped after a cooling bath and Tylenol and she was fine. My son has handled his shots perfectly with no fever at all. Hope this helps. If her temp hasn't dropped at all in 24 hours, I would give the pediatrician a call.
