What does the forth pedal in high end supercars do?
I am used to having 3 pedals (Clutch, brake, gas) however I have noticed on car shows that some of the high end supercars like the Ferrari Enzo have 4 pedals instead of 3.
What does the extra pedal do?
The extra pedal isn't actually a pedal at all. It is referred to as the dead pedal and is where you should put your foot when driving a stick. (Even resting it on the clutch pedal could result in a damaged clutch.) However, the Ferrari Enzo is only available with the semi-automatic transmission and therefore has no clutch pedal. It only has two real pedals plus the dead pedal. There is a shiny metal plate inside the footbox that reflects the accelerator from most angles, so you might have confused the reflection as another pedal. I'm pretty sure that all manual cars have the dead pedal, but in lower-end applications it is just a surface to put your foot on and not similar to a pedal in appearance.
