How do i get my son to sleep in his crib all night?
I have a 3 month old and we are starting to put him in his crib because he was getting to big for the bassinet. He is a very crazy sleeper...constantly moving it seems like. In order for him to go to sleep in his crib we have to make sure we rock him and soothe him until he's out cold. We then can lay him in there and he will sleep for about 4 hours. He will wake up screaming and we go and put his pacifier in his mouth and he will be fine, but only for about 15-20 minutes. Then we'll have to do it over again, and this is how the rest of the night goes. Some nights I'll admit that I get really tired of going in there and giving it to him so I bring him into bed with us and as soon as I do that he is back to sleep. And he will sleep fine all the way until about 8:30 the next morning. I don't want to keep having him sleep in our bed because I know in about 8 months I'll b e regretting it! How do i get him to sleep through the night?
I know it's frustrating to not get enough sleep - my daughter has reflux and they are impossible sleepers. At 3 months your son may be too young to sleep through the night at this point. He's waking for a reason, he's hungry or wet or just wants to see his mommy.
At that age I honestly wouldn't worry about having him sleep in your bed, in a month or so he'll grow out of that stage and be able to sleep in his crib a little longer. If it allows you to get some sleep then let him sleep next to you. Have you tried feeding him when he wakes up and see if he'll sleep in his crib another 4 hours - when they're that little their bellies don't hold a lot and he may not be physically capable of sleeping longer.
My daughter did the same thing, she would take the pacifier only for so long; I ended up feeding her and falling asleep with her in our recliner for the first 3 1/2 months of her life; she's now 5 1/2 months and is starting to sleep through the whole night in her own crib. It gets better, when they're that little enjoy the fact you can sleep with him next to you.
